 The main goal of public relations & publicist services (PR) is brand awareness and management.  As a publicist we pitch your message to media outlets who can connect you with their audience. We do this by researching, messaging, pitch writing, and interpersonal connections with press outlets. We work daily to connect with you and to put you in front of the media to secure interviews. PR works best when the client has more than just a product, they have a message. This is a very personal form of marketing; no one can share your message like YOU! 


Marketing & advertising (M/A) and public relations & publicist services (PR) are close colleagues with different functions. They share the common goal of connecting you with your ideal audience. Put simply M/A dollars pay for ad placement in media outlets; PR dollars pay for press placement (putting your message or pitch before the press who help get your word out to their audience).  M/A works best for products, while PR works best for messaging.  M/A and PR can work hand in hand. The more familiar you become to your target, the more trusted your message.


 Most PR firms target at least some of the following media:

  • Broadcast media (TV, radio)
  • Podcast & vodcasts
  • Local media (newspapers, periodicals)
  • Bloggers and influencers
  • Industry publications
  • Your target market


The most effective campaign is a team effort. Your PR team works with you to create a campaign that markets you and your message. Here are some ways that you can contribute to the effort:

  • Take the FIND YOUR VOICE masterclass!!!
  • Fine-tune your message to meet the need of your target audience.
  • Prepare, with your PR firm, bullet-pointed focuses for your message.
  • Story your message - have illustrations and stories that bring your points to life.
  • Consider building a multifaceted outreach - social media, web presence, blogs, podcasts, SEO, marketing ads.  Then integrate your PR message to create familiarity with your market.
  •  Be available for communicating with your PR representative and be flexible for booking interviews.
  • Prepare an "ask" to motivate your audience and funnel interest.


After a start-up and building time of about 2 months, you should expect monthly media connections or interviews. After airing or printing, you can follow your success by gauging sales, site traffic, and / or social followers.  Most clients find that the farther down the PR road they go the better niched the messaging becomes , the more effective their interviews, and the more successful the results.

PR is a marathon not a sprint, be ready for the long haul to get the most out of your efforts.


It is important that you find the right PR fit for YOU.  PR firms are not one-size-fits-all.  As you shop, ask yourself these questions:

  • Do you feel connected with the staff?
  • Do you believe that they have your best interest in mind?
  • Do you see them as competent and professional?
  • Can you afford their services?
  • Will they work with and for you?
  • Do they believe in your message?
  • Do they have a proven track record?
  • Will they give you a good value for the cost?
  • Will they present you and your message in the best light?
  • Can they provide tools for your growth and excellence?


The average campaign runs at least 6 months.  The best campaigns run for much much longer!

HERE'S WHY:

  • It takes about two months of hard work by your publicist to create a familiar connection. Studies prove that we perceive messages as more truthful and reliable with frequency. Public relations/ publicist services (PR), like marketing and ad placement (M/A), take time to endear you and your message to the recipient.

  • There is a science to marketing you. Each time they present you they build awareness. Awareness then becomes interest. Interest builds to desire, and desire can then become action. A quick search online will show that the average cost of PR is between $2,000 and $10,000 per month. This is due to the intense time and energy a good firm will put into creating a campaign, marketing it, and developing a working relationship with outlets. The average campaign runs at least 6 months. It takes this time to create awareness, familiarity, and interest to a target that may not know you, your product, or message.
